DFO Data on Repeat Spawning Grilse
Main Southwest Miramichi
The following data was collected by DFO at both their Millerton (Main SW) and Cassilis (NW) trap net facilities. The 2011 tables are compiled from data published by DFO in Report #3042, Table 18. (View Report) They show a detailed analysis of the actual spawning contribution of grilse (1 Sea Winter). Note that the maiden (first return) 2 SW and 3 SW salmon are primarily females, which is why Miramichi anglers have been actively releasing them, by law, since 1984.
